What are some signs I need to visit the dentist?
Some signs you need to visit the dentist are first off if it’s just been a while, like tooth pain, if you notice your gums are bleeding when you’re brushing or bleeding, or even bad breath. Those are just some signs, but you know it’s just important to come in at least every 6 months
I have tooth pain that goes away after a few days, is that normal?
It can and can’t be. If it’s something minor like say maybe you bit down hard on something or you brushed too and caused some trauma to your gums, that sort of pain will heal itself but sometimes their underlying issues that’s causing tooth pain, so it’s always best to just get it checked out.
How do you handle a patient with dental anxiety?
Dental anxiety is very common so you as a patient are not alone in that. Typically, I’ll ask if there’s anything that is particular to you that maybe helps alleviate the stress whether it’s music or frequent breaks in-between procedures. I try to be as gentle as I can, and I also like to talk you through everything we’re doing so there’s no unexpected surprises.
Do you have a favorite toothbrush you recommend?
I prefer an electric toothbrush. It can be any brand if it has a pressure sensor and a timer. When it has a pressure sensor it’ll stop when you’re brushing too hard, it’s just important to make sure you’re getting everything done efficiently. If you prefer a manual over an electric I definitely recommend a soft bristle toothbrush
Are there any things I should or should not do before going to my appointment?
Before going to your appointment I would definitely recommend if you have any questions regarding insurance or insurance coverage, calling the front desk prior to your appointment, and if you had any x-rays taken previously at another office i would definitely try get them emailed to you or to our office so it’s not taking away appointment time and were no scrambling for x-rays the day of your appointment. In addition, I would also recommend if there’s any changes in your medical history, come 5 minutes before your appointment time so we can update your medical history form.
Can you tell if I only ever floss before my appointment?
Yes! We can clearly tell if you just floss once in a while. Things like cavities and periodontal disease don’t just happen overnight so it’s very clear upon our examination and x-rays if you floss once in awhile or if you’re a daily flosser.
What is something you wish your patients knew?
I wish my patients would prioritize their oral health as much as their overall health. Just cause your overall health is directly related to your overall health and risk factors that make you predisposed to periodontal disease also put you at risk for cardiovascular disease and stroke, so it is really important to keep up to date on your oral health.
